Most people are not the default user. Not always. Not even most of the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cities and institutions make decisions on mobility, public space, housing and urban development every day. Many of the standards, datasets and procedures behind these decisions assume a narrow range of users: people who move quickly, make decisions with confidence, find their way independently and use digital services with ease.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\n

Everyday urban life looks different. People are ageing, caring for others, living with disabilities, working irregular hours or travelling with children. Some need more time, clearer information or other ways to get around and take part. They are part of everyday urban life, yet they are rarely the starting point for plans, standards or institutional decisions. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

We help cities and institutions find out whom their plans and policies work for, whom they leave out, and what needs to change.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Approach<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every plan, standard, dataset and procedure assumes a particular user. This assumption is rarely written down, so it is rarely discussed. Our work starts by making it explicit.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We take sides for visibility, not for predetermined outcomes. Different groups can have competing needs, and cities have to make choices. We show whose needs are prioritised, whose are overlooked, and what the consequences are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        We conduct applied research, impact assessments and evaluations to understand how plans, policies and measures work in practice, who benefits and where gaps remain.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

        We design and facilitate participation processes that reach people often missed by conventional formats.           We are an independent urban advisory practice based in Arnhem, working with clients and partners across Europe and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          We bring together expertise in mobility and spatial planning, urban development, anthropology, spatial and transport economics, and international development. This lets us look at cities from two sides: the institutions that shape them and the people who live with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Having lived and worked in different countries, we know different governance systems, planning cultures and institutions first-hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Our working languages are Dutch, English, French, German and Spanish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
